About Marian
As a licensed educator with over 17 years of classroom experience, I bring a proven, structured approach to every lesson. My Teaching Method and Techniques
I build lessons around student ownership rather than passive instruction. Instead of simply walking a student through the "right" answer, I guide them toward it — asking questions that help them notice patterns, self-correct, and build confidence in their own reasoning. This approach, often called guided autonomy, means students leave each session having practiced the thinking process, not just memorized a fix. I also adapt heavily to how each student learns best, drawing on strategies from my 12 years teaching in an international bilingual school, where I regularly worked with students processing content in a non-native language.
A Typical Lesson
A session usually starts with a quick check-in on what the student is currently working on in school, or what's tripping them up. From there, I introduce a short, focused mini-lesson on the specific skill (a reading strategy, a math concept, a writing technique), followed by guided practice where I gradually step back and let the student work independently while I coach in real time. We close with a quick recap and a small, clear takeaway they can apply on their own — so the session always ends with visible progress, not just completed worksheets.
