As a student-focused ELA (English Language Arts) teacher, I believe that every student deserves instruction that meets them where they are while challenging them to grow as readers, writers, thinkers, and communicators. My classroom is student-centered, inclusive, differentiated, and built on the understanding that literacy development looks different for every learner. I strive to create an environment where all students feel valued, supported, and capable of success.
I am passionate about teaching reading, writing, literature, and literacy skills in ways that are meaningful and engaging. Through diverse texts, purposeful discussion, and authentic writing opportunities, I encourage students to think critically, make connections, and develop their own voices. I believe literature has the power to build empathy, deepen understanding, and help students better understand both themselves and the world around them.
Differentiation is at the core of my teaching philosophy. I recognize that students come to the classroom with different backgrounds, strengths, interests, and learning needs. Because of this, I use a variety of instructional strategies, scaffolds, assessments, and learning opportunities to ensure each student receives exactly what they need to succeed. Whether through small-group instruction, individualized support, choice-based assignments, or varied reading materials, I work to help every learner build confidence and reach their full potential.
I also believe strong relationships are essential to student growth. I make it a priority to know my students as individuals and create a classroom culture built on trust, respect, and encouragement. When students feel seen and supported, they are more willing to take academic risks, engage in learning, and grow in their abilities.
Ultimately, my goal as an English teacher is not only to strengthen literacy skills, but also to inspire lifelong readers, thoughtful writers, and confident learners who understand the value of their own voices.

Jennifer was my favorite teacher in middle school. She is a 10/10 teacher who makes sure that kids get to learn the way they learn best. My favorite unit in her class was the dystopian unit. We read a lot of different dystopian short fiction stories, but we also read about some real life dystopias so we would understand that it can really happen to us. Together, we read Anthem by Ayn Rand. Then we were allowed to choose our own dystopian book and we did a project (with products that we got to choose) to show what we learned from that book. Because of having Jennifer as a teacher, I still love dystopian stories to this day.
Jennifer was my ELA teacher in 8th grade. She was incredibly patient and supportive. She made sure that each one of us got the learning opportunities that we needed. She differentiated in every lesson so we were able to do things in a way that helped us become stronger learners. My favorite unit was called Oh! The Horror! We focused on thriller and suspense elements and we read a lot of Edgar Allan Poe. We did creative writing as well. Even kids who didn't like to write ended up liking the type of writing we did in that unit. I wish I could have her in class again.
I would recommend Jennifer because she differentiates each lesson based on the needs of the student. She doesn't just roll everyone through the same lesson. She finds out what you need, and then she curates a series of lessons just for you. 10/10 would for sure recommend.
ELA, English, English as a Second Language, Perfecting an American Accent, Writing, Creative Writing, Reading....she does it all.View more recommendations
