About Ray
Ray Salisbury is a professional landscape photographer, shooting for NZ magazines, international image libraries and calendars. He is also a qualified secondary school teacher. Based in Nelson, he now teaches newbies and intermediate-level students how to use their camera. And how to shoot portraits, wildlife and landscape images. Ray has developed 7 online courses, with 52,000 students from 80 different countries. The author of two books, he has also designed numerous FREE resources to help you learn fast.

Ray Salisbury is a warm, friendly tutor with nearly 50 years' experience in photography, and 12 years' teaching art and design. He is married with two cats. For the past 7 years, he has helped dozens of photographers learn how to use their cameras, as well as learn how to shoot better images. Meeting places are usually at a relaxed, neutral location (e.g. Founders Park cafe) where you can do practical exercises. Methodology: Ray is pragmatic, and wants you to master the basics. So he will quickly assess your knowledge and ability, then tailor a lesson for you. For instance, rather than get stuck on technical issues, you can quickly improve your scenic images by learning the artistic (i.e. 'fun') side of photography first. And by visiting spectacular locations. Later, when you develop (excuse the pun) a passion for this art form, you can fine-tune the technical aspects of your image-making.

Earlier in the year I asked Ray to give me some one-on-one tuition for my Cannon M6. He was brilliant. Made sure my camera was correctly set up for me and gave me some really great tips of the trade in a very relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend!
