About Joshua
Working as a tutor for over a decade has given me the knowledge to work with anyone. My graduate education consists of a Master of Arts degree in Nature Writing and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. I am also an award-winning poet and essayist. With over a decade of teaching experience, I have learned that guiding a student toward success means the development of organizational and study skills. My methods include engaging my students' active participation through their questions, skill drills, guiding questions, and practical application.
A typical lesson plan consists of gauging students' needs to set objectives or goals for learning outcomes. Often, this means discovering what the lesson will entail, providing a context for the skill I am teaching, and guiding the student into direct learning. From there, my students engage in guided practice of the material, and if needed, I will assign them some form of independent practice. This could simply mean writing that dreaded paper with newfound confidence.
As a tutor, I am fun and courteous, but I am also organized and an expert in my field. My skills translate well to high school and college students, but I can also teach younger pupils. Ultimately, I only care about my students' success. If you are searching for a caring tutor who can and will help you learn what you need, I am excited to work with you.

Joshua has taught haiku to a couple classes I've been in. His knowledge of writing is vast. I had a chance to workshop a fiction piece he wrote years ago. He can write in any genre, which means he can teach any genre. He's an excellent teacher! I highly recommend him.
