About Abi
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching for about 10 years. I have taught some visually impaired children at Edward Wilson school and the junior department at the RCM and now teach at Eastbury Primary School, and also have a number of private piano and violin students.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
yes, although I believe that, at present, it is not possible to transfer this. I would be very happy to get another one if required.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained at the Royal College of Music with various people including Andrew Ball and David Ward.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the MU.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
One of my students began piano about two years ago saying that she really didn't know how she would find it. She was keen to try though as I was already teaching her son and she's still playing and enjoying it! another of my violin students is a lawyer who played when she was younger and has come back to it after a long break.

If you are looking for an experienced teacher with a calm, can do, open-minded attitude then you have come to the right place!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Classical Piano and violin and can also help with musicianship skills. I am unable to teach how to read music because I am blind and use Braille, however, I can teach aurally, which can include preparing recordings of pieces covered.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BMus and PGDip from the Royal College of Music.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £25 for an hour and £15 for half an hour.
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach in my flat, which is ten minutes walk from Stamford brook tube or a short walk if you take either the 94 or 237 buses. Parking is also available. I can also teach in the student's home. If you would like me to come to you then it would be helpful, and much apreciated, if someone could meet me and my guide dog at a tube station near you.
- When are you available?
I am not available to teach on Tuesdays but, other than that, I am able to be flexible and am also happy to teach at weekends or during the school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I can teach piano at any level and violin up to around grade 5 or 6. I can also help you with either instrument if you haven't played for a long time and need help to get your confidence back. It would be easier though if you can already read some music or if you are happy to learn by ear.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can give advice over Skype.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
it is never too late to learn an instrument so give it a go and you might even enjoy it! Could I please ask that you read my profile carefully before contacting me as a lot of the questions I am asked have been answered here. I would also like to say here that I am a guide dog owner and my dog will be accompanying me if I come to you. She is very friendly and will not hurt you. She will not jump up on you or your furnature and will usually find a place on the floor to sleep during the lesson. She is my eyes though so your understanding in this matter would be much appreciated
