  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I had to help members of my family - with challenges that threatened to make school hard, making friends hard, making emotions hard and out of control.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I analyse handwriting and reading, and motor skills and then assess improvement. I assess school readiness. However, the treatment improves the overall quality of life. I know that because parents I've worked with in the past, who have done the work with their child, want to remain my friend; Parents, who don't get on board, I simply end the sessions and leave the value with them.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Sidney Chu is a great occupational therapist. Also, there are lots of leading lights in the rhythmic movement/ reflex integration/ vision therapy world, like Sally Goddard Blythe, Harold Blomberg, Kerstin Linde, Paul Dennison, Svetlana Masgutova, Glenn Doman, Dr Temple Fay, Rudolph Steiner, Maria Montessori, and several French dudes from the Victorian era, whose names I don't remember!
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Honesty, transparency, and methodical methods. Knowing what needs repetition and when things are done.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I myself had Dyspraxia and couldn't catch a ball. It wasn't until I was 21yrs and after doing the Alexander technique, I actually caught a ball after a 5 mins exercise. This taught me that the brain can be trained and that Dyspraxia is a movement deficit disorder.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

There is so much to know about, in functional neurology. The politics surrounding reflex integration is that it's not seen as valuable as sensory integration, even though reflex integration is the foundation affecting the brain stem. In my small way, I bring the movement lab for clinical neuropsychology and neuroeducation to your home, or on the screen. On the screen can be a challenge but we have to move the camera around, that's all...😂
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is to see children become themselves, their real selves with their real potential expressed, not stuck in their developmental milestones, with labels.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions:-P)?

Practitioners like me, are the answer when you've tried everything else.
