The teaching is extremely personalised.
The first lesson will always begin with a discussion of goals. You will tell me what you believe your strengths and weaknesses are, and where it is you most wish to improve.
Following this, you will present me with a piece of recent work that you believe is representative of your writing standard. We will work through it, line-by-line and paragraph-by-paragraph to identify areas to hone in on.
These are some general areas that we will work on together:
1) Argument Distinction and Recognition. Before we start building our own essay writing skills, we have to identify different types of arguments and to be able to understand when they are worth utilising
2) Unpacking. A common theme in IB, essay-based subjects is seemingly convoluted questions. We need to utilise question complexity to our advantage, learning to identify what is expected for us and how we can take our discussion to higher levels
3) Structuring. We may know how to structure individual arguments, but another essential skill is knowing how to fit this into a bigger picture. We will work on argument transition, rebuttal, and signposting
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
George is a very bright young man with notable eloquence in his university work. His essay writing is commendable and I highly support his imparting of essay writing skills to those he will tutor.
Before I hired George, I was getting 70% (at best) on my assignments. Now I get 92%, but more importantly, George has taught how to enjoy learning again.
