About Michael

As a musician - I have worked in many different environments such as, Rock, Pop, blues, funk and jazz bands, theatre bands, concert bands. Besides working with some very talented musicians and performed a large number of shows. I have also, been involved in photo shoots, live videos, studio recordings and press articles.

As a Private Teacher - I have taught drums since leaving school, delivering lessons in various environments, centres and schools. I have experience in delivering music workshops and also, teaching hand & tuned percussion. In 2014 I founded MM Drum School in Derby providing drum lessons and drumming therapy along with various other services. MM Drum School is an award winning business which, has gained much praise for creating bespoke programs for children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I also run in-house exams for students wanting to gain graded qualifications and support those wanting a career in the Music Industry. I have a 100% exam pass record and I have entered hundreds of students in drum exams for over a decade.

I have the following legal certifications -
Enhanced DBS Certificate, Public Liability Insurance, Employer Liability Insurance, Professional Indemnity Insurance, Advanced Safeguarding Certificates and Child Protection Certificates.

All in person lessons are delivered at my studio in Derby Cathedral Quarter.

Just starting to play?

From your very first lesson you’ll be playing grooves and fills on a full drum kit and building your abilities through the lessons at your own pace along to the music that you like to listen to and aspire to play.

We’ll make sure that you’re developing good habits and techniques from day one.

We’ll also focus on how you play, as much as what you play, which is as important for your long term enjoyment of the instrument. You’ll be playing along to your favourite songs before you know it.

Going for your grades?
The sense of achievement from passing your grades and getting the certificates is amazing. They are a great and very enjoyable way of developing your abilities and there are grade levels for every level of ability. With our guidance we will make sure you are most prepared for your exams.
Playing for fun?
If you want lessons purely for the enjoyment and satisfaction of learning a new instrument and a new skill, then that’s a great reason to start.
