I have two main types of lessons: tutoring lessons and traditional classroom lessons.
Most of my tutoring lessons are geared towards high school students. When I tutor them, I typically diagnose their areas of need by procuring a writing sample that I read and offer feedback on. I then aim to focus on the student's areas of room for growth based on their areas of need. Then, through Socratic discussion and a series of deductive/inferential questions, I guide my students towards deciphering their own mistakes. When and where necessary, I offer them answers as to what is needed. Ultimately, once their errors are assessed and diagnosed, I allow them an opportunity to revise their work. As the process is recursive, I repeat the cycle until a sufficient level of mastery is achieved. I do all of this using a rubric that aligns with state standards as a measurement of success in achieving state standards.
My traditional classroom lessons follow the standard I Do (Model), We Do (Practice), You Do (Independent Practice) structure. I model what the skill of the lesson is. Then I practice it with my students. Then I have my students assess their understanding of the skill through independent practice. My lessons are interactive, inclusive of multi-media and differentiated learning methods (from auditory to visual to kinesthetic), arts-integrated and fun! They incorporate several types of art (from poetry to political cartoons to short video excerpts) and delve into dynamically intriguing aspects of history and art to enhance students' interest in the subject matter.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my direct experience with much of the content that I teach. As an award winning artist and poet myself, I benefit from possessing deep background knowledge of the inner workings of much of the literary, historical and artistic content that I teach.
