About Dani

My academic journey is one of countless twists and turns, I understand the difficulties of navigating academia all too well.

I graduated from high school in 2015 with a 2.6 GPA, not trying very hard at all, and started over at community college.
In those three years, I completely turned my life around: got involved in my local community, took every class my heart desired, and was accepted to every university I applied to.
In the Spring of 2019, I transferred to UC Berkeley to pursue my major in Anthropology and also minored in Ethnic Studies.

I spent a lot of time strengthening the bonds of my academic ecosystem, mainly through coordinating organized study groups to ensure we all succeeded at a notoriously tough university.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, I worked as part of the Bridging Berkeley mentoring program over Zoom to help middle school students navigate the digital learning space and stay on track of assignments, helping with whatever they needed.

Through this experience, I realized I had been living with undiagnosed ADHD my entire life and finally received a diagnosis at the age of 24, answering so many questions as to why I struggled so much in school growing up. So when I say I understand what it means to navigate a difficult system, I really mean it.

Since then, I've been finding new and inventive ways to thrive in academia despite difficult circumstances. I was briefly in a Master's program for Anthropology but due to financial constraints, I had to leave the program and focus on working. As of now, I am back in community college, the most important place of my personal growth, to switch careers into Art Therapy.

So while I take my classes part-time to pursue my dream, I would like to give you a helping hand in pursuing your dream, too! Looking forward to working with everyone!

My approach to tutoring is adaptable, inventive, patient, and compassionate. I definitely experienced a plethora of unexpected twists and turns in my academic journey, so the least I can do is help others navigate their educational needs.

When helping with homework, my main focus is to clearly identify objectives and find ways to reframe ideas so they are more easily digestible and understood. From there, I like to briefly sketch out a road map of next steps and break the tasks down in a way that feels less overwhelming. Through teamwork, I then guide my student towards their homework goals.

What sets me apart from other tutors is my ability to meet people where they are at and break down complex, abstract concepts in a way that is easy to retain for the future. My life experience includes a variety of jobs in different fields that helps build a well-rounded approach to understanding each student's individual mode of learning.

My main focus is to help other college students, although I am open to teaching high school level subjects. My strengths are in reading and writing comprehension and I love essay preparation in English and social science courses. I also love helping people with their creative projects, whether it's a short story, poem, sculpture, or painting, I want to make sure the vision is fulfilled.
