My rates are not at all based on student's level because if the student is weak in maths I have to put extra hours anyways. And if the student is a quick learner, then my job gets done quickly and I could get reference much earlier. So in any case it's a win win condition for me.
Secondly regarding the travel - if I have to travel by taxi or bus in order to reach the location, yes I will ask for the expenses to be paid to me. If it's walkable distance like couple of kilometres, I won't ask any extra charges. However, the travel time might get charged if it is taking more than half an hour to reach the students place.
