About Alexandra

I am a fully qualified Primary Teacher with a Masters in Education, my dissertation research focus was on how best to engage pupils in learning and I apply this to my tutoring, I value the importance of relating learning to pupil's own experiences and interests.

I have taught for 5 years and the majority of my classroom experience is KS2, I also have a lot of experience working with ASN/EAL pupils and have tutored ASN/EAL pupils also.

Please get in touch if you would like me to tutor your child online, I already tutor a number of children in Aberdeen privately with some focussing on maths and others on reading and writing. I work with some EAL/ASN children already and have experience of supporting pupils with dyslexia, autism, ADHD and ADD. I have also helped children prepare for non-verbal and verbal reasoning tests for private school entrance exams.

About the lesson

I believe the emotional component of learning is essential for success. Therefore, I strive in all my lessons to make my pupils feel motivated, interested, challenged and supported. Whilst tutoring in Aberdeen privately, I have mainly focussed on tutoring in reading, writing and maths. I am very good at breaking concepts down into manageable chunks for pupils. Currently in my tutoring, I help my pupils to master concepts they have found challenging in school, support them with their homework and help them to up-level their skills in writing. The areas I have worked on have been chosen by their parents and when working with your child, I would like to discuss your needs and work with you closely to ensure you get the results you desire.

A typical tutoring lesson with me will be structured as follows:
10 - 15 mins: warm up activity - a fun and engaging game or activity linked to the learning for this lesson
30 - 45 mins: learning activity, individually designed to meet your child's learning needs
10 mins: plenary, a fun game or activity where I will assess your child's learning and identify their next steps.

Homework can also be given to your child if you would like this.

If your child is lacking in confidence in any curricular area, I can help them to grow and build up their confidence. I am very patient and kind, so if your child feels nervous about starting tutoring, which I imagine they will be, you can rest assured that I will put them at ease.

As previously stated, I have a Masters in Education with Commendation from the University of Aberdeen where I also studied for my PGDE. Additionally, I have a 2:1 degree in Psychology from the University of Glasgow where in my final year I focused on autism and the role of Positive Psychology in Education. I am very well qualified and my classroom teaching innovative and engaging.
