About Shoba

I am a senior professional with 21 years of experience in global banking and IT service delivery, having spent my career working with HSBC's Global Service Desk across teams in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. Throughout that career, clear and effective English communication was not just a skill — it was the foundation of everything I did.
I authored the HSBC Global Quality & Training Handbook, a document adopted as the standard onboarding guide across 12+ countries, and designed and delivered training programs for diverse international audiences spanning multiple cultures, languages, and professional backgrounds. That experience gave me a deep appreciation for how adults learn, what holds them back, and what truly builds confidence in a new language.
I hold a TEFL certification from Henry Harvin, an EF SET C1 Advanced English certification, and a Train the Trainer qualification — giving me both the professional credibility and the teaching methodology to deliver lessons that are structured, practical, and genuinely effective.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is student-centred and completely tailored to your individual goals. Before we begin, I take time to understand what you need — whether that is professional business English, conversational fluency, grammar foundations, or exam preparation — and I design every lesson around that specific goal.
Teaching Techniques & Methodology
I use a communicative teaching approach, meaning we focus on real conversation and practical usage rather than rote memorisation or abstract grammar rules. Every lesson includes a mix of structured exercises, guided conversation practice, vocabulary building, and constructive feedback. I use real-world materials — business emails, workplace scenarios, news articles, and everyday situations — to make learning relevant and engaging. For written English, I provide detailed feedback on structure, tone, clarity, and grammar so you can see exactly where to improve.
Lesson Structure & Length
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, though 90-minute sessions are available for students who prefer a deeper dive. Each lesson has a clear focus area, warm-up activity, main practice section, and a short review at the end so you leave knowing exactly what you have learned and what to practise before next time.
