About Oliver
My name is Ollie and I am a 27 year old Chemist. I completed my PhD in Organic chemistry at Cambridge in 2023. My time is predominantly divided between laboratory research, teaching and my dogs. Teaching is my passion and has been since I was 17 when I first started tutoring. I taught at Cambridge for 4 years and have been teaching privately for almost a decade. In that time I have taught a wide variety of students, from GCSE level mathematics to degree level chemistry and pride myself in seeing my students go on to succeed in their own endeavours. I also help prepare students for university entrance interviews (in chemistry) for Oxford and Cambridge.

I have taught for 10 years now and my lessons are tailored to the need of the particular student. As a rule of thumb, my lessons do not exceed 2 hours unless the student remains fully engaged. I do offer teaching in blocks of up to 3 hours (highly dependent on the student) with 5 minute intervals every 45 minutes or so, though generally 2 hour sessions work best in my experience. I have found that the best way to engage students is to let them ask questions freely and to address those, rather than bringing a curriculum that they should know. That way the lesson is tailored to the needs of the student. I also tend not to just give the answer straight to a student but rather give them hints and direction to solve it themselves. This gives students confidence in their own abilities to problem solve, which is particularly important in the preparations for exams. I teach from the ages of 13-23, though am happy to teach mature students as well. I have experience teaching all of these age groups and at their respective levels. I finished my PhD in organic chemistry at Cambridge and can teach from GCSE to degree level chemistry, as well as Mathematics up to A-level.
