About Sophie
My interest in chemistry began with curiosity about how substances transform and interact at a molecular level. I completed a B.Sc in Chemistry followed by an M.Sc in Chemical Sciences, gaining strong foundations in theoretical chemistry, laboratory analysis, and applied problem-solving. Over the past 13 years, I have supported learners from diverse academic backgrounds in developing clarity, confidence, and independence in chemistry. I teach with patience, empathy, and adaptability, ensuring explanations match each learner’s pace and learning style. I use visual models, step-by-step breakdowns, and real-world examples to help students internalize complex ideas. Many learners who initially feel overwhelmed gradually become confident as they recognize the logical patterns underlying chemical behavior. Outside teaching, I stay engaged with chemistry through research reading, curriculum refinement, and applied analysis projects. Teaching chemistry is deeply fulfilling because it allows me to help students build strong analytical skills and confidence in understanding the material world.

Chemistry becomes far more approachable when students understand how microscopic interactions lead to observable changes in matter. In my lessons, I guide learners through atomic structure, periodic trends, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, thermodynamics, and reaction mechanisms using carefully structured explanations. I emphasize logical reasoning, helping students see chemistry as a connected system rather than a collection of isolated facts.
Lesson plans are thoughtfully adapted to each learner’s academic stage and confidence level. Beginners focus on foundational principles such as atomic models, symbols, equations, and basic calculations, building confidence gradually. Intermediate learners strengthen their understanding of reaction types, energy changes, equilibrium, and practical laboratory reasoning. Advanced learners work on multi-step problem-solving, exam preparation, and analytical chemistry concepts. Every lesson includes guided examples, practice exercises, and reflection to reinforce understanding deeply.
