About James
I am Computer Scientist and Mathematics student who adores the scientific disciplines and has a steadfast love of logic and reason. My experience ranges from teaching students in High School about Information Technology and Math, to teaching and helping other students in Computer Science and Math at the first and second-year University/College level. I have always enjoyed teaching others, and seeing my students grasp concepts that they previously were not able to before is the most amazing thing. There's an immense reward in seeing my students learn things and expand their horizons. I believe firmly in "teaching to fish" in order to imbue you with the knowledge to learn on your own, and I will do my best to guide you in that process. My range focuses on High School level tutoring up to the first or second year University or College level. I teach anything related to Mathematics and Computer Science at these levels (with some special exceptions at the higher University levels)

My teaching method is to motivate the student with interesting examples, fun but challenging problems, and a brief but relevant history of the discipline. All of the content is motivated by concrete problems and learned by hands-on work. Finding the solution is the learning process, and I will work with you to discover it. Theories and examples are presented hand-in-hand, with a strong emphasis on theoretical foundations and immediate practical applications. Bring anything you are struggling with or don't understand to me and I will work with you to make sure that not only do you understand how to solve the problem, but to use that knowledge to generalize and solve other problems like it. Questions are encouraged! Ask away and I will answer what you need.
A typical lesson plan involves an overview of the topic introduced and motivated by a concrete problem. You can also bring any questions or assignments that you need help on and we can work on that together. Each lesson is ended by a Q/A session where you can ask to clarify anything or pose any questions that you have. Extra material or exercises can be assigned to flesh out the understanding of the material further and reinforce the concepts.
