About Liyan

I maintain respect for my students as I encourage them to challenge me during our sessions as much as I might challenge them. I want my students to know that I value identity to a high degree, that I am committed to respecting theirs in order to maintain a safe learning space. When we engage in discussions and writing practice, I encourage students to challenge modern and classical ideas, and utilize their fundamental freedom of speech. All ideas are welcome in my classrooms and learning spaces.

About the lesson

As someone who is extremely passionate about the impacts of learning through language and books, I am happy to have a job where I can share my skills and learn from my students own ideas through meaningful discussions and analysis! Growing up in many parts of the world, I came to Canada at age 8. As an ESL student I understood very quickly how daunting and difficult it can be to achieve a modicum of proficiency in English. Having this experience makes me more invested in other’s goals and achievements in the world of books.
