About Mike

My name is Mike Beck, I've been a drum teacher for over 20 years, and have worked as a professional drummer for over 30 years. I'm passionate about drums, music, and teaching. I've studied privately with Frank Gibson, along with masterclasses, drum courses as well as academic study. I regularly work to improve myself as an educator as well as a musician. Throughout my teaching career, I've taught students of all ages, genders & levels. As well as teaching privately, I also have experience teaching in schools, teaching people with disabilities (learning and physical), and in a prison environment. I think of my style as; being relatable, offering guidance to individual needs, attention to detail, being a nurturer who is patient.

About the lesson

I teach students from where they are at - whether at the beginning, or further down the road of their musical journey. I'm open to teaching whatever a student wants to learn, and can facilitate education material at request. Some focus areas of teaching include; technique, posture, breathing, reading, communication, how to work with a band/bass player, tuning and gear, music genre, & finding your voice/style. Lessons are typically one on one, for 1 hour. Flexible for younger students (under 10) for half-hour lessons, & for the attention challenged. I cater for all ages, genders & levels.

Douglas loves drumming, beats and drum samples. He enjoys lessons, and exposes me to the history of drum sampling through the music that he's interested in, I often learn new things myself. He's moved onto an electronic drumkit, and is enjoying applying rhythms and playing along to music with super-funky beats.
