Hello! I’m Dean, a Master’s student in Data Science at the University of Western Australia (UWA). I have a background playing for the badminton district team in Malaysia and one year of coaching experience.
When I coach, I focus entirely on helping you build a strong foundation in badminton. The initial stages can be challenging and the training may seem repetitive, but this is essential for mastering the basics. Footwork is one of the most critical aspects of badminton, yet it is often overlooked. By dedicating time to the basic techniques, you will see significant improvement and discover the joy and excitement the sport brings.
Sessions typically last 1-2 hours, tailored to your needs.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
* I also do group coaching currently.

Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Dean is very friendly and professional. He’ll start with teaching the basic skills like footwork and basic drills, then move on to more advanced techniques as you progress. Highly recommend coach Dean to everyone.
Nice and patient. Even good for beginners
Dean is an awesome badminton coach — he is very knowledgeable, approachable and observant, so he is able to pinpoint small errors in your footwork and tell you how to hold a proper grip when necessary. Each session is a little different as you progressively learn something new, but he will tailor it accordingly to suit both newcomers and returning players. It’s also great fun and you’ll find that 2 hours had gone by so quickly. Another great thing about it is that it’s held once every week and you’re free to come whenever you feel like it!
Dean is a very experienced badminton teacher. Can tell that he has taught in the past. Technically very good, and knows the foundations and techniques very well. If your technique is not optimal, Dean can pinpoint exactly what you need to change, and what exercises you need to practice, so that your badminton skill improves quickly.
Before having lessons with Dean, I was a complete beginner, but Dean has given me the foundation and confidence to be able to play in a social setting.I’ve been training one-on-one with Dean for about two months, and he’s been instrumental in improving my badminton skills. He’s patient, kind, and explains techniques thoroughly. Dean places a strong emphasis on footwork, which is often overlooked by many coaches but is crucial for beginners. Thanks to his focus on this area, my court speed has improved significantly, leading to better quality shots. I highly recommend Dean for badminton coaching.
