About Helen
I’m an experienced Primary teacher with 12 years supporting children in both mainstream and SEND settings. My teaching philosophy looks at the ‘whole child’, based on my extensive experience working in Early Years and with children with SEND. I have wide expertise working with children to develop social, emotional, communication, physical and independence skills, alongside academic progress. I have taught Early Years, KS1, phonics intervention groups (to help with the development of early reading and writing) and have supported KS2 children 1:1 and through clubs and wellbeing activities.
I believe that emotional wellbeing and self-regulation are essential foundations for learning and progress and this underpins my teaching. I am a creative teacher and tailor my lessons to each child’s strengths, needs and interests, using a range of approaches including multisensory activities, play-based learning, real-life experiences, outdoor learning and more structured lessons. I also have experience of using a range of SEND strategies to support learning.
I have worked with children with a wide range of needs including Autism, ADHD, Global Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy, Dyslexia, PDA, Dyspraxia (DCD), SEMH needs and those affected by trauma and attachment difficulties.
I am a kind, fun and nurturing teacher who builds strong, positive relationships with children and their families, based on trust and clear communication.

I take an individual approach to teaching, focusing on their strengths, interests, needs and challenges. My lessons are fun, interactive and multisensory with a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing and regulation, as this is key to helping children feel ready to learn.
In addition to my mainstream primary training, I have extensive experience with SEND specific teaching strategies, based around a Total Communication Approach. These include Attention Autism style lessons, Zones of Regulation, visual supports, scaffolding and simplifying language, reduced demand strategies, PACE (trauma-informed practice), Makaton, sensory play and learning through play.
I offer tutoring sessions bespoke to your child’s individual learning journey. This may be around specific academic targets, need or interests. I can also offer tutoring sessions that work on other specific skills such as attention, motor skills development, emotional regulation or independence skills. All my tutoring is SEND friendly, based on the needs of the individual learner and will naturally use a range of SEND interventions to help with learning and progress. I also have wide experience of planning and designing learning around specific EHCP targets.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Helen tutors our 7-year-old daughter, who attends a special needs school, and she is brilliant with her. Our daughter looks forward to her weekly session and is always excited when Helen is coming.
Helen adapts the activities while still following a clear plan with goals we have set together, in line with the school’s recommendations. She really takes the time to adjust to our daughter’s progress and needs.
Despite her ADHD, our daughter stays very engaged during the lessons. She also enjoys practicing what she has learned between sessions, which shows how motivating Helen’s approach is.
Helen is kind, patient, and very professional.; I would highly recommend her.View more recommendations
