As a teacher with over 6 years of experience, I have plenty of practice looking to see if my students understand what I have taught them (by assessing their progress) and I know how to change up methods when one particular method does not work. My work with students of various learning styles and backgrounds has given me the gift of using creativity to teach my students. In my methods students will find that they have the ability to use online tools to become familiar with a skill that we have been practicing. The online activities and games are a good way to prevent any student from boredom while ensuring that there is ample practice to learn the concept. My typical lesson plans start with a brain teaser where we either review a concept and add a twist to it or we start off with a new and fun approach to a skill. The essence of my lesson is to help students go from guided help on a skill to working more independently. Whether we do this with vocabulary, reading comprehension or writing, this will be one of our key methods of seeing student progress. One thing that makes my approach different is that I like to include some form of student input in the learning experience. Whether it is choosing an activity or deciding the sequence of activities, I find that students learn best when they have choice.
My ELA lessons are for students between the ages of 9 and 18 and my ESL lessons are for students 6 years of age to adults.
