About Vincent

I am a circus acrobat, dancer, martial artist, and movement artist with experience in a whole great deal of different disciplines. Performance and teaching are in my blood, and I approach my teaching uniquely for each person I instruct. I've studied and taught in three countries over two continents, and have worked with a wide variety of schools and performance companies to gain the greatest amount of perspective I can manage.

Some of my favourite memories are watching my student's eyes light up when they first understand a new skill and grow as a result. Whether it's ballet, aerial arts, circus, martial arts, or anythiong else, nothing motivates me more than the success of someone I'm training.

Teaching came naturally to me. When I was in my younger days as a martial artist, I excelled quickly enough that my instructor gave me some beginner's classes to start teaching as part of my training. That's where it all began, your honour.

I have a bachelor of arts degree in theatre arts and drama from Washington State University, where my specialization was in dance. I've studied Vaganova and Cecchetti ballet as well as Graham technique and Humphrey and Weidman technique modern dance, and I have experience with Luigi style jazz dance. I've studied martial arts for 17 years, and have various ranks in various arts. I've been studying and performing various circus arts for almost a decade now.

About the lesson

New students generally go through one or two lessons of evaluation, where we work together to identify their current strengths and abilities as well as what they want to achieve and how they want to go about it. After that, I set up a lesson plan that we loosely follow toward the goals we established, and we adjust our lessons and methods to maximize the amount of progress made while still having fun. Nobody likes doing something to get better at it when it's a slog.

I have experience with students ranging from as young as 7 years old to as old as senior citizens. Anyone from hobbyists to aspiring professionals have been under my tutelage.

Their instagram or their social media isn't that important. Ask them where they studied. If they have only ever studied in one place, that means they have only ever gotten one real inlet of study, and as such they will have developed the same bad habits that place has. Studying their art in multiple places gives them a rounded experience, and helps identify the weaknesses in their main place of study so they can fortify them.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about any past injuries or illnesses that you have that might affect what you're trying to learn. Think about what you want to achieve, at least in the short term, and use that as a jumping-off point. Address any phobias that you might encounter.

Details

In general, prices for lessons depend on the amount of risk inherent in the art. Ballet and modern dance tend to be a little bit safer than aerial tissue, so they are a bit cheaper. However, my rates tend to be a little flexible depending on what the client wants, how often they want them, and how much travel is involved.
