About Cathy

Cathy has a unique approach to teaching partner dance. Focusing on "Social Dancing" as opposed to "competitive dancing", She teaches how to dance with any partner to any song rather than memorizing steps and routines for only one. Emphasis is on having fun while learning the techniques of movement, leading and following, partnering, musical expression. She gives you the tools to learn to dance smooth and naturally and to develop your own creativity with confidence. This is not a "Studio". We do not require contracts. If you once pay for one of our "Regularly Scheduled Classes" (4 weeks of 1hr/week) you are entitled to FREE REPEATS for that class every time that class is offered and at no additional charge. This allows you to become more confident and competent over time. Classes are geared for beginners or intermediate level dancers. Four weeks of class cost $45/single person or $80/couple. Private lessons are available at $45/hr.

My love for dancing started in high school. I then took ballroom dancing in college and started with Carter's Dance Studio, where I was trained by Carter Lovisone, "King of Swing" to teach for him. Since then, I continued training with Ed Dumbleton, a Dance Director for Fred Astair studio) and Brigham Young University Ballroom Dance Camps.

I have been professionally trained and have over 30 years experience teaching Ballroom, Latin, Country, Swing, Night Club, and other various social dances. I continue my own personal training and am always learning new ways to communicate and share the joys of dancing with others. My degree in psychology and martial arts training have significantly influenced on my teaching style.

About the lesson

We offer Regularly Scheduled Group Classes in Ballroom, Country Western, Swing, and Night Club 2-Step. Private lessons may be scheduled to address individual needs or concerns. During private lessons, I capitalize on the individual's natural talents and focus on leading and following.

I have worked with students ages 3-years old to 83 years old. I've taught youth in public and charter schools and worked with mentally handicapped and physically disabled individuals. My classes tend to be a good mixture of adults from 18 to 80. Focus is always on safety and fun.

Learning to dance is a journey and it should be an enjoyable one. Focus on having fun while continuing to improve and staying active throughout your life. Dance is something that anyone can do. Don't try to be like everyone else, just be yourself while having fun moving to the music you love.

I offer Private Dance Practice Parties for my students which are a combination of socializing and learning a few new steps while practicing what we've already learned.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Identify your own goals with dancing. Then make sure the teacher you are choosing is consistent with those goals. If you are looking to be a competitor, you will need to go to a professional who is promoting competitions and involved in that realm. However, if your goals are more modest and socially oriented, you don't want to have competition and performance pushed on you and you won't want to spend the money required for competition.

Details

Regularly Scheduled Classes cost $45/Single Person or $80/Couple and include FREE REPEATS for as long as the class is being taught. Private lessons are $45/hour with a 2-hr minimum lesson. Private Group classes (5 or more people) can be arranged for $10/person/hour (with a 2hr minimum per lesson).
