About Rachel

I offer performing arts-based services to students experiencing developmental delays and/or behavior challenges. Rooted in theatre and/or dance practice, I offer activities such as story telling, role play, movement, music, puppet making, drawing and other art forms to build a sense of self, encourage physical development, and exercise social skills. I offer lessons for individuals looking to learn technique, but also to those seeking a creative avenue for personal development. My certifications includce Autism Movement Therapy, Therapeutic Art Life Coaching, training in Applied Behavior Analysis and Crisis Prevention intervention, and most recently completion of post-graduate training in Drama Therapy that will allow me to file for certification as. Registered Drama Therapist with the North American Drama Therapy Association. In addition to working with individuals expeirencing developmental challenges, I also offer Drama Therapy based sibling support for those seeking to explore their role in the family, intense feelings related to the sibling's disability, or worries about future care for the sibling. Please visit (concealed information) for more information.

I live for the "a-ha" moments with my students - finally suceeding with a new technical skill, learning something new abotu themselves, or navigating a new life skill. Helping my students find joy and excitement in life is what keeps me working hard every day. I am passionate about providing learning and growth opportunites for those who may find limited options for study elsewhere. Happy people, happy families, creative souls

When beginning with a new student, it is helpful to know in advance if the goals for our lessons are based in performance/technique or if the student desires a more therapeutic experience focused on perosnal growth.  The first two sessons are for gathering information - what is the present skill level, what/who are the students inspirations, what challenges need to be overcome, etc.  From there, I will create a lesson plan to meet the student's goals and we will begin working through an individually tailored series of creative and performative activities.

I have expeirence teaching studnets ages 3-adult and have worked with neurotypical studnets, those wth neurodiversities, and those who are physically differently-abled.  Diagnoses I am familiar with include Autism, ADHD, Anxiety and Depression, Cerebral Palsey, Traumatic Brain Injury, Down Syndrome, and more.

Particularly for students looking to use the performing arts as an avenue for personal growth, choosing a Drama Therapist with a background in special education can make a big difference in what the student gets out of the lessons. With specific training both in how to communicate with and break down tasks for those with learning differences as well as how to apply particular psychological principles to artisitc inquiry, you can be assured of your emotional safety no matter what the focus of our lessons are.
