About Mollie

Looking to prep that big audition? Simply wanting to try something new? "Chicago" superfan wanting to learn "All That Jazz," or "Roxie?"

Mollie Downes is a NYC native, working in the worlds of musical theater, dance, and music performance. Most recently she was seen starring in the Broadway National Tour of "Chicago" playing the role of "Roxie Hart."

Mollie Downes offers accessible coaching that is tailored to your individual level. She is patient, while still pushing you to reach your next performance goal, whatever that may be.

Some of her favorite things to coach are audition preparation, ballet and theater dance technique, and of course, material from the musical "Chicago."

Mollie Downes is an alummi of LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts in NYC, and the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.

Although I often worked as an assistant teacher in dance classes throughout my high school years, I decided to open my own coaching business at the beginning of the pandemic as a way to keep myself and my students creative during this time away from the theater industry.

I am a professional in the musical theater, dance, and music industries, and have performed across the United States as well as Internationally in my field.

Most recently I starred in the Broadway National Tour of "Chicago" as Roxie Hart. I was also seen in the International Tour of "Legally Blonde" as Brooke Wyndham. Other roles include Lola in "Damn Yankees," Fastrada in "Pippin," and Velma Von Tussle in "Hairspray."

About the lesson

First, I like to have my students tell me a little bit about their experience with the performing arts, and learn what has inspired them to pursue lessons.

Then I ask them to set a list of goals they are hoping to achieve through our lessons, and I come up with a personalized lesson plan and strategy to help them feel confident and excited about our journey together to bring them closer to those goals!

Some of my students are simply looking for a one-time masterclass for the opportunty to learn specific material from the show "Chicago" or to help them book their next audition, and sometimes their goals require more sessions that keep them working on their craft both in the studio with me, and in their own homes and daily lives.

I have worked with a wide range of students. Some of them have had little to no experience in theater, and others have been professional performers.

I think it is important to understand your personal goals when you are entering a coaching session, and to remember that art is never static. As artists we have to allow ourselves time to grow and learn from both our experiences in the classroom and in the real world.

My family has a six year old dog that has brought us great joy throughout this time off from working in theaters! I am a true animal lover and I love taking the time to walk my dog, Otto, and playing at home with my two cats.
