About Alexandra

I worked professionally as a private tutor and editor for several years as I earned my BA in English with a focus on creative writing from UCO, where I was also inducted into Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. I'm currently in OSU's graduate program, seeking my MFA in creative writing with a focus on poetry and working as a university tutor in the Writing Center on campus. As a result, I can assist students with developing strategies to unpack English literature and its movements (American and British); compose and edit writing pieces (creative and academic); and teach grammar, usage, and syntax.

I love being able to share the human aspect of literature and language. Communication is vital to us. Literature and its creation are extensions of that. They are born from the human drive to share stories. In a purely academic setting, however, we lose that creative spark. In doing so, we also lose part of what makes each piece so moving and important. My goal with each student is to make authors and texts accessible by reintroducing them to the intersection of history and emotion that forged the writer and subsequently their piece.

I got started through a professor-turned-friend of mine. She knew I was offering free essay editing services to her students and recommended me to a friend of hers whose daughter was looking to increase her ACT scores.

About the lesson

My first time meeting with a student is spent getting to know them--their interests, learning methods, and current level of education. I want to be able to meet them where they are academically while also tailoring sessions to incorporate their hobbies and learning styles.

For literature: be prepared to be open-minded and willing to look at multiple subjects that appear on the surface to have nothing to do with the work. Literature isn't written in a vacuum.

For composition: don't hire anyone who seeks to silence your voice. Your voice is what makes your writing uniquely yours. Simultaneously, seek someone who challenges your arguments and points out every error. Without those, you won't grow.

My pricing is $20 per hour. Cash or check only. However, I'm happy to work at a reduced rate for families in need. I don't believe any child should be denied assistance based on their family's financial situation.
