About Andrew
I hold a PhD in Comparative Literature and Intercultural Studies, a Master's degree in Classical Languages and Literature, and a Bachelor's degree in English.
My specialty is using my range of experiences and knowledge to help you find opportunities to use your own as effective examples and teaching tools for whatever you might be studying.
My special contribution to our sessions will come from my own experiences.
I have over ten years' experience teaching and tutoring university and dual-enrollment writing and literature content, including technical and analytical reading and writing, creative writing, and all things in between. I have taught students to apply experiences in medicine, engineering, law, business, and even gaming (video and tabletop) to reading, writing, and analysis, in courses including Literature and Medicine, Technical Communication, and Writing Between Disciplines, alongside typical courses in composition, languages, and literature.
Together, we will look at your interests, your goals, and where you stand now, and work in whatever direction will best suit the needs of your situation.
We focus on a strategic, experience based approach. It often allows you to apply your own knowledge to creating solutions, directly or indirectly, and trains you to approach a problem from multiple angles, possibly with multiple solutions, according to the facts and circumstances.
Our approach is a working approach to literature and writing that utilizes content-based dialogue and classical critical thought. When we assess a topic, thinking critically fundamentally requires you to assess the situation, the author (maybe you!), and the content the author is delivering, and to make a decision about what makes sense according to those three things. We apply this to what has been said, what ought to be said, and how either of those can (or should be) be understood.
