About Sean

I have just completed my Bachelors of Music from San Diego State University, I have worked with students from elementary to senior citizens as well as those with disabilities. I have experience in playing piano for more than 16 years. I have completed the Music Teachers Association of California, Certificate of Merits with honors including playing at conventions in Los Angeles, San Jose. I also volunteer playing at my local church and have volunteered my time to perform at honor society events. I have been recommended by my student's families to others seeking a piano teacher which maybe my highest recommendation that I can ask for.

I enjoy seeing my students embracing and developing their capacity and capabilities in learning music on their instrument. I enjoy seeing the cognative development when they apply the concepts I introduce such as rhythm, technique, and melody, especially when what is being taught "clicks".

I started teaching because of my mom who was a piano teacher of 20 or more students for a number of years. It has inspired me to see that even people who are with challenges can be taught and enjoy the success of playing a piece well.

The education I have that relates to this work is my Bachelor's in Music.

First, I must assess whether he or she has ever played a piano before. If said student had some experience, I would determine their (1) theory, (2) performance, (3) technique, (4) timing and (5) patience. Once all have been assessed and evaluated in terms of strengths and weaknesses, we proceed to what needs to happen next.

The students that I have worked with range from elementary to senior adults. I also am still working with students with disabilities which I do not consider a challenge but a wonderful opportunity for both they and I.

The advice I will give is that they should be interested in learning, be willing to receive instruction, and be aware that learning is a process and that there is joy in developing a difficult piece that takes much time and labor.

A recent event that I am extremely fond of is my graduation with a Bachelor of Music at San Diego State University. In relation to a recent experience with a student of mine, this student showcased her excellent musical expression in a challenging piece that is above her level.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They need to consider what the teacher is doing that makes it easy for them to learn or what things make it more difficult for them. They should also consider whether the piece is challenging enough or not. Also, what kind of music do they enjoy and would like to learn to play?
