About Elwood
I am a passionate saxophone tutor with more than 9 years of experience teaching college students. I believe music education should be clear, motivating, and enjoyable. My teaching approach focuses on building strong fundamentals while encouraging creativity and musical expression.
Students learn tone quality, breathing control, finger technique, rhythm training, and performance skills. I also guide students through improvisation exercises to help them play with confidence and freedom. Practical music examples are used to make lessons meaningful and easy to understand.
I use modern learning methods such as recording sessions, personalised feedback, and play-along tracks to track progress clearly. Music theory, ear training, and reading skills are also part of my teaching to strengthen musical understanding.
My aim is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable improving step by step and enjoying their musical journey.

My teaching approach for Saxophone is focused on building strong musical foundations while keeping learning enjoyable and meaningful. I begin by understanding each student’s level, learning style, and musical goals. Lessons are planned step by step, starting with correct posture, breathing techniques, embouchure formation, finger coordination, tone development, and rhythm accuracy. I explain concepts in simple language and demonstrate them clearly so students can apply them with confidence.
Creativity is an important part of my lessons. I encourage students to explore melodies, experiment with sound, and practise basic improvisation. Learning songs that students enjoy helps them stay motivated and connect emotionally with music. As a mentor, I guide students patiently, helping them overcome challenges and build self-confidence. I support them not only in playing the instrument but also in developing a positive learning mindset.
Critical thinking is developed by teaching students to listen carefully to their sound, identify mistakes, and understand how to improve. Accountability is maintained through structured practice routines, clear weekly goals, and regular feedback. Along with Saxophone, I also teach Music Theory, Rhythm Training, Ear Training, and Scale Practice to help students grow as complete musicians.
