About Maya
Hi, I am Maya, a first year university student at the University of Guelph, majoring in Criminal Justice & Public Policy. I am an experienced tutor and have lots of experience working with students. Specifically, I worked as an assistant teacher with special needs and kindergarten elementary students. As well as, I tutored immigrant high school students in English. I also volunteered with an English program and taught students of all ages how to read.
I enjoy teaching and have a passion for working with children. I know how frustrating it is to struggle in a subject and that's why I am here to help and relieve some of that stress. My hope is that my sessions will be fun and engaging and we can get you back on track as soon as possible.

My approach as a tutor involves re-learning the basics and taking it step by step. Our first session will typically be an overview of where the student is struggling and what they know well.
From there, I would create a lesson plan specific to the student's needs. I mainly focus on practice questions and test prep as that's where most students face challenges.
I work through the questions with the student and give them time to try on their own once they are comfortable. I really value the student's input and am open to teaching them in whatever way works best for them. I want our sessions to be fun and engaging!
