About Arlene

Hi, there! My name is Arlene, and I'll be an incoming freshman at the University of California, San Diego this fall as a molecular and cell biology major in hopes of becoming an epidemiologist.

It might seem strange to you that a future scientist would want to tutor AP Art History, but that's just a testament to how much I absolutely LOVE that class and how much it's impacted my life.

Going into the class, I had no knowledge about Art History. The only thing I knew is that I love both subjects separately, so I thought I'd enjoy it now. And goodness, was I in for a ride!

What a lot of people don't know is that Art History truly shaped humanity and how the world works now. Little would I know that the location where Beauty and the Beast is filmed is actually a famous Christian pilgrimmage site, or that there are Pokemon based on famous works of art! I can't watch Black Panther or Moana in the same light as I did previously before being in this class with the knowledge I have about Pacific Islander and African history.

So what are you waiting for? Are you ready to see the world through a new lens? If that's the case, I'd be happy to be your tutor! (And please, think of me as more of a friend who wants to see you succeed. Teacher tropes are never fun, and oftentimes, I learn more from my students!) :)

About the lesson

- We'll be breaking the topics into 24 different units (unlike how CollegeBoard has it set up), which will allow you to gain a broader understanding of how the timeline connects!
- You'll be picking out your favorite pieces out of the curriculum's 250 and creating your Top 24! With this method, you'll have pieces stacked up in your repertoire ready to go and use on the exam.
- I scored a 5 on the AP Art History exam back in 2019 and was the Web Master for my school's AP Art History class! I improved it and added scale, maps, as well as offered techniques that would be useful to others like they were to me.
- Lessons are for high school students (9th-12th grade) who plan on taking the AP Art History exam in the summer, or just anyone who wants to learn and gain a newfound appreciation for art! :)
