About Jenny

I have been writing and editing academic dissertations, commercial advertisements and business/legal contracts for many years. I am currently completing a TEFL online course that will qualify me to teach English as a foreign language.

I have often found that correct English pronunciation, as well fluency, do not necessarily come naturally to many Afrikaans speaking South Africans. Since it is well-known that English has become the global business language, it is important to cultivate fluency, correct pronunciation and stress, correct grammar and tense use, correct spelling, as well as a broad vocabulary and adept writing skills in the English language.

Since I am one of those fortunate people to have been afforded an aptitude in languages, I feel privileged to be able to help others achieve their life and career goals through improving their English, whatever their specific English language skill requirements - whether to be able to give skillful business presentations in English, or write better English essays at school or university level, etc.

About the lesson

I am able to teach English at any level, whether students are youngsters, teenagers or adults, and I adapt my lesson style and focus according to the required level and specific areas of need (e.g. pronunciation, or grammar, or teaching student(s) how to write and deliver an interesting, fluent oral/speech to a class/group/audience in English).

I strongly believe in student participation and aim to elicit and cultivate topical interest, as well as motivate students through various proven techniques and methods (and sometimes even games and competitions), depending on the level of the student(s) and his/her/their needs.

I encourage extensive topical (English) reading and aim to keep lessons relevant, informative, productive and challenging. I try to connect with students while identifying their strong areas (so as to further build their confidence), as well as the areas that require more specific attention.
