About Abigail
I tutored and taught writing and ESL to Emory students, mostly from East and Southeast Asia. I have expertise in aiding writing assignments, correcting grammar, punctuation, organization, etc. I also taught Tibetan monks in the Emory medical program. Beyond college, I did a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in one of Germany's most international cities, where I helped school-agers learn about American culture and became fully fluent in German. Now I am taking time off my PhD program to teach preschool. Cultural understanding is one of my key goals when I am teaching. I am flexible enough to address any issues you want, including vocabulary, speech & comprehension, or any assignments. Working with little kids and learning languages myself, I know how to make them fun!

Bachelors in Philosophy & German Studies from Emory University. Three years trained undergraduate tutoring of Writing and ESL to international college students. Post-college Fulbright scholarship teaching English to diverse middle and high school students in Offenbach, Germany. Accepted to doctorate program at U of Michigan for German-Jewish studies.
I aim to teach people at all ages using very direct, hands-on, and sometimes play-based techniques. I believe a personal connection is essential to helping you feel comfortable learning another language, and that linguistic and cultural concerns are inseparable. I devise my own quizzes and formulas for gauging comprehension level, and I include games whenever possible. I am also happy to talk on Skype or the phone if in-person tutoring isn't your preference, or if you'd like to ask more questions and express your needs to me. I would design a schedule based on what you tell me and we could negotiate it together. If all you're looking for is writing help, I'm available for that too!
