About Lori
I became an elementary school teacher because I love children and I am a lifelong learner! I truly believe each child can be successful, and mindset is 85% of that success. Having a positive attitude and being willing to take action/do practice daily goes a really long way toward outstanding results!
I love English and was actually an English major for 1 semester before I realized that being an elementary school teacher was what I wanted for my profession. I'm all about making learning engaging and fun, and any challenging skills or subjects can be addressed in lots of ways that are still effective.
Being diagnosed with a reading comprehension problem in 3rd grade made school less than exciting for me, and while my teachers did their best to help me, school became a place of stress and anxiety. It felt like the longest walk to school each day, and I knew I was not on the same level as my peers. I worked with tutors consistently and applied the strategies they taught me, and it fostered a love of reading and writing to this day. I journal daily and love to read both fiction and nonfiction...and I still use those same strategies I learned as a child.
I say all this to say, I know the feeling of struggle with reading and expression in writing, and I am confident that I can help you! All it takes is the willingness to try and not be worried or upset if something we try doesn't work right away...there is always a way! It just takes practice and time. :)

It's been a while since fun and education could be spoken in the same sentence- I'm all about making learning FUN!
I taught pre-K to 6th grade over the course of a 30 year career, and my method is to start each day smiling and in gratitude. It's important for me to get to know my students well so that I may serve them to my best possible capacity.
My focus now is on grades K-5 and helping students in reading and writing skills. A typical lesson plan would include activating/assessing prior knowledge of a topic/subject, introducing a new skill by tying it to what is already known, and using concrete examples useful in daily life to help cement new knowledge. Spaced repetition and assessment are used to further help my students succeed, and skills that need reinforcing are addressed in ways that are most beneficial for my students.
