About Alexander

Hello! I'm Alex, an English tutor, graduate and professional writer with a passion for language, literature and learning. I've been tutoring professionally since 2015. Currently, I tutor for the National Tutoring Programme, an initiative set up to deliver high-quality tuition to students in schools across the UK. I graduated from Falmouth University in 2018 with a high first in English. Since then, in addition to my online and in-school tutoring, I have worked as an educational support worker and teaching assistant for schools across Cornwall helping children with a diverse range of learning requirements, including SEN. I've worked as a professional content writer and copywriter since 2019 for clients across the world. I'm a published creative writer, with poetry published in journals in the UK, US and Australia, and I have a chapbook of poems out with Earthbound Press. I have a wealth of classroom and tutoring experience; a lifetime's worth of knowledge in English language and literature; and I am genuinely passionate about my subject-- and that's what makes the difference for my students.

About the lesson

As soon as I know the religions on which you have chosen to focus, we can get started on testing your knowledge of their practices, beliefs and teachings. Applying your knowledge to relevant ethical and social themes is the next step. I have years of experience taking students through the AQA papers, so I can help you identify exactly what each question is asking of you and how best to time and structure your answer. I have a tailored approach for each student and can help you through any of the available study routes and religions. I see myself more as a learning facilitator than a teacher: my main role is to hold open a space that will allow you to find your own way towards clear thinking and writing. Questions not corrections! This involves you more completely in the learning process. The critical thinking and writing skills you develop in my lessons will be much more useful to you in the exams than any information I could give you (although revision is also an essential part of exam preparation). As our lessons progress, we will identify learning goals for you to work on-- perhaps there will be gaps in your knowledge, critical thinking skills or writing technique. We will regularly check in on the progress you are making in these areas. This will give you concrete areas on which to focus and helps track progress.
