About Emihle
I'm Emihle Duma from a school in a rural area in KwaZulu-Natal at Mzimkhulu. I've grown up with my grandmother and grandfather. The reason I became interested in becoming a teacher, while I was doing grade 10 I once faced the challenge of being undermined by a teacher on an intellectual level. I remember we wrote an essay for History. I prepared myself because I wanted to score high marks but unfortunately when scripts came back the teacher made a joke about me and made me stand up in the class. And said that I copied the test because there is no way that I could have scored those marks while I've raised my hands when she asked questions. To me that shows favouritism to the teacher because their favourite learners did not become the highest. I had to face the allegations. The bottom reason for me to become a teacher is I want to treat all learners fairly and equally regardless of their level of cognition because I understand that there are learners who are shy to answer questions in the class but excel when writing down. Also, there are those who excel in answering in the class but fail when writing down.

Your background does not determine your future. I'm coming from a rural area. I've never imagined that one day I would be a teacher. I remember one day going to school carrying my school books with Spar plastic as my school bag, brushing my teeth with coal, bathing with plain water without soap, using cooking oil as my lotion.
