About Melissa

I am experienced as a supporting teaching assistant in challenging schools in London since graduating in 2013, where I worked to support the delivery of English and Maths to children requiring extra help. At one of these schools, one of my one-to-one year 11 students received the school wide award of Most Improved Student and went on to achieve far above his predicted grades.

I have also worked as a Government Trainer for Adult learners wishing to brush up on their skills.

I am now working from home and can offer online lessons via video tutorial and skype, as well as proofreading and pre-marking services. These are included in the lessons but if you want these services alone e.g. proofreading for university essays, then I am happy to negotiate a rate for offering these separately.

Most of all I believe that everyone is capable of succeeding but that sometimes we need a little along the way.

About the lesson

I am a UK based University Graduate (BA Sociology and Criminology) with experience of tutoring English, Maths and Exam Preparation for Primary and Secondary students up to GCSE level in Maths. I can also offer As and A2 Level help with English Language and Literature. I also have experience teaching functional skills to adult learners wanting to brush up their English and Maths skills.

The first thing I like to do is ask students to complete a learning style quiz which will help me prepare lessons based on how you learn. There are no right or wrong answers to this but there is evidence that students benefit and retain more from learning material delivered in their style of learning.

I then use engaging lesson content (Think Harry Potter and Video Game related lessons plans) that can be delivered via skype and email. This can be in an instant messaging format, voice only or video format. Whichever you prefer, your child does not need to be on camera if you are uncomfortable with this, though it is better for rapport.

I also offer marking services as I have exam invigilating experience and will proof-read and give feedback on my students work via email, before they submit it to their teachers!

Details

Proofreading and Pre-marking services for school work are included in the lesson rate but can be arranged as a standalone up to Bachelors Degree level for a competitive rate of 1.00 GBP per 1000 words or for GCSE and below shorter or non-English assignments can be fully marked for 2.50 per assignment.
