Over my time tutoring others, my foremost takeaway is that so long as you are only pursuing HOW to solve a problem you will find it difficult to remember the concept over time. My lessons focus on discovering WHY a concept/problem works, and using that to infer the solution. This method enables easier recognition of patterns as well as what to do with variations in the normal problem format one is used to.
