About Sophie
I am currently a graduate student pursuing my Master's in political communication at American University. I also received my Bachelor's degree from Auburn University, majoring in political science and minoring in both art history and international relations. In terms of work, I am currently teaching art history to an Arts Club. I have explored the world of art through curating an exhibit and studying abroad in Italy. I believe that building genuine connections and encouraging active conversations is essential to helping students not only memorize facts, but also truly explore and appreciate the fascinating stories behind great works of art. My approach focuses on making art history accessible and relevant by connecting historical movements to contemporary issues, a skill I've honed through my background in political science. Whether we're discussing Renaissance patronage systems or modern protest art, I help students see how art has always been a powerful form of communication and social commentary.

I excelled in the AP art history courses in high school. I understand precisely where students struggle and what makes the subject manageable and understandable. However, every student learns differently, so I have the opportunity to adjust my teaching style to benefit individual students. I find that art subjects having an interactive and visual component are necessary, but learning the basic information is crucial. I would provide tools and conversations to make the overload of information manageable. I can assist both high school and college-level art history classes. I am excited to be helpful in a subject I so love!
