Hello! My name is Spenser, I'm a recent college graduate in ELA and liberal arts. Though I'm fresh out of school, I have about 5 years of classroom experience, first working with students in a summer camp environment, then co-teaching two courses at the University of New Mexico (one focused on magazine production, the other analyzing stand-up comedy as a form of literature). In addition to my freelance work here, I serve as a classroom assistant for Tutorverse SHSAT classes and am beginning work with Curvebreakers Test Prep as a tutor.
Along with my work in the classroom, I found success in school as an editor on several student publications, granting me a strong eye for coaching student writing and editing. My background in creative nonfiction makes me a proficient essay coach to complement my experience in test prep.
Growing up, the strongest instructors I had emphasized a personal relationship with their students, forming their teaching methods around what their students required. This is the approach I like to adopt—always student-first.
The lessons I offer are great for anyone. Students might find value in my services if they're looking to improve their SAT/ACT English scores or devise their college entrance essays. Those out of school can utilize my services in improving their reading, writing, and editing skills in order to make themselves a more appealing candidate in the workplace. Even new creative writers can find value in guided readings and exercises to help them discover their voice. As the student, you decide your goal—I'll help you get there.
