About Carter
I recently received my master's degree from Oxford; I studied English Romanticism with a focus on William Blake. But my skills and interests are broad, ranging from Chaucer to George Saunders.
I prioritize punctuality, consistency, and transparency in my tutoring practice. But, ultimately, what matters most to me is seeing progress (and enjoying the process) in whatever form that takes, and, of course, chatting about writing, books, poetry, etc. I enjoy working with literature in any and every form and am here to learn as well as teach.

If you would like to improve your essay writing, close reading skills, textual analysis, rhetoric, and all things related to literature, philosophy, and theory, I'm your tutor!
My approach is primarily Socratic: I believe developing or improving the skills necessary to become a successful reader, writer, and thinker is best done in conversation. I will avoid lectures and strict lesson plans unless necessary: let's talk about the book, the paper, and the abstractions and try to make sense of it all together.
The most structured approach I have is teaching the formatting and structuring of essays. It is essential, and very helpful, to have a planned, systematic approach to essay writing. I teach simple steps to improve coherency, readability, and logical flow, while also emphasizing the importance of maintaining a distinct voice and personality (it should at least be a little fun to articulate your thoughts in writing!).
I will read your work and give honest and thorough feedback. And I will read along with whatever text you're assigned in order to extract all the benefits possible from a collaborative tutor-tutee effort (I am here to learn with you as well as teach you).
I am willing to work with anyone in the 11th grade onward.
