About Victoria
I have many qualifications for teaching, a BSc, BA Honors Mathematics, double major BA Foreign Languages and Linguistics, MA in Education, and over two years graduate school math which I had to leave for health reasons. I've been teaching for fifty years since 1974 and tutoring privately for forty years since 1984. I have found that my skills work best with individual students or very small groups so I've been specializing in tutoring for twenty-five years since 2000. My classes are very relaxed, informal, and conversational, while my math and grammar are precise and detailed. Many of my students have had difficulties from anxiety to ADHD to dyslexia to autism. I'm not afraid of a challenge and will try my hardest to help any student who comes. I have wide-ranging interests, reading and book collecting, flower gardening in Canada, mathematics, music, and much more.

Hello! I've been teaching for fifty years since 1974 and tutoring privately for forty years since 1984. My major subject is math, BSc plus BA Honors math, and I'm always happy to get a student in Calculus or Linear Algebra. However, the real crying need in our present time is literacy. I also have a BA in Foreign Language and Linguistics, and have made a special study of the Science of Reading; this is closely tied to my degree in linguistics through phonetics and vocabulary and the study of grammar. I teach students to read in both English and French using tried and true materials which apply directly the five pillars of reading and two additional pillars of writing -- phonics (decoding) phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, plus handwriting and spelling (encoding). I work with students through learning their very first letters up to and including reading classic novels and analyzing literature. My classes are rich in academic content and we cover a lot of work seriously, but at the same time we have a lot of enjoyable stories and books, talk and write about various ideas, and have a lot of fun. The language is exact and detailed but the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. I am not afraid of a challenge and have worked with a number of students with various difficulties, from dyslexia to anxiety to ADHD to autism. We can talk and develop a genuinely individual program.
