About Dan

Hi! I'm Dan (Daniel if I'm in trouble) and I'm in my second year of studying History at the University of Exeter. I'm a big fan of the Humanities in general, but I love in particular History and Classical Civilisation, which is what I teach on Superprof. I have a strong background in both History and Classical Civilisation, with A* and A grades respectively in A levels, with a specialised experience on the construction of the modern European world. I'm big on making learning and revision an enjoyable time, and I think having confidence in all aspects of what you are doing is invaluable to this, so I'll be sure to be with you every step of the way as you progress your learning. A student myself, I know just how challenging academic life can be, and balancing studies, assignments and exam preparation altogether can be overwhelming - trust me when I say I've been there before! We're all going through it together, and I'm more than sure that we'll cruise through any storm together unscathed! I’m confident that, together, we can reach your academic goals while making the learning process an enjoyable and rewarding one - all that's missing is you!

About the lesson

My lessons in History and Classical Civilisation are designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of your key topics while helping you develop strong analytical and exam skills - and having fun at the same time!! Typical lessons will usually rest around the 1 hour mark, so we can properly delve into the subject. With your input I can outline some objectives of study we can work on, where we will go over sources hand-picked by myself before the lesson and dissect them critically. I’ll guide you in analysing sources, explaining their significance, and encouraging you to form your own conclusions. I'll use past papers to introduce questions from previous exams that relate to the topic we’ve covered, helping you familiarise yourself with the type of content that may appear on your exam, where we will analyse the questions, break them down, and discuss how to structure strong, well-argued responses and integrate these within your technique. If you have any particular weaknesses you might want to practise I'll be more than happy to dedicate time to develop these even further, introducing strategies to help with common problems like time management, answering techniques, and how to avoid pitfalls. I've had experience tutoring people of all standard of expertise within their humanities, and I'm confident that anyone can learn how to critically dissect questions and answer them to a high standard, whether that's achieving your grades to get into your dream uni or pushing for those 8s and 9s in GCSEs, or just wanting to deepen your understanding of the subject, I'm sure we can get the job done and have fun at the same time!
