About Helena

I am a second year Anthropology, History, and Te Reo student from Victoria University who has years of experience achieving high marks in english, and the humanities. My strengths are essay writing, proofreading, critical thinking, and exam preparation. I have achieved excellence endorsements in NCEA levels 1 & 2, and merit endorsements in level 3, along with subject endorsements in the humanities. As well as this I gained A+ in Anthropology and B+ in History during COVID-19 last year.

I have tutored and taught students throughout high school in these areas and have plenty of experience. I love to help people understand the mechanics of essay writing and english in a way they understand. Every student is different and needs to be taught differently, but every student is capable of achieving their goals and I'd love to assist them in this.

About the lesson

I believe every student is different and understands things differently, therefore my teaching method changes depending on the student. However, generally my approach in student-lead as I try to encourage independent though and help to bridge connections where they may have been lacking. Every student has the ability to do well if guided in a way they understand. For student who are more visual - I like to use 'roadmaps' and physical examples to aid in understanding. For students who are more mental - I love using memory and thought exercises to help them progress.

I think it's important to understand that every student is aiming to achieve different goals. Not everyone is aiming for an E+ in an assignment or exam, some students are aiming to pass, and that's okay. It's important to recognise the student's personal goals rather than pushing different ones onto them, as this can discourage them from a subject they could have really enjoyed.

My rate remains at $25p/h regardless of the students ability or goals as I believe education shouldn't be highly expensive, especially for students who are needing extra help. However, I do have a cancellation policy:

If the lesson is postponed or cancelled 24hr before the scheduled time there is no charge. However, if the lesson in cancelled or postponed within 24hr of the scheduled time, a $15 fee will incur in addition to the lesson cost (if postponed) or stand-alone (if cancelled).
