About Declan
I am an experienced saxophone tutor with more than 12 years of teaching college students. My approach is simple and practical, making saxophone learning easy to understand and enjoyable. I believe consistent practice with the right guidance helps students grow confidently and efficiently.
My lessons focus on tone quality, breathing control, scales, rhythm, and musical expression. I mix technical exercises with creative activities like improvisation to help students develop their own musical voice. Real-life examples from popular and classical saxophone music keep lessons interesting and relatable.
I use innovative teaching methods such as recording practice sessions, play-along exercises, and personalised feedback. These tools help students track their progress clearly. I also guide students in music theory, ear training, and reading skills for better musical understanding.
I create a calm and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and improving step by step. My goal is to help students enjoy music while becoming confident saxophone players.

My Saxophone teaching style combines creativity, mentorship, and structured learning. I believe that strong basics are essential for musical growth. I focus on teaching correct breathing techniques, posture, embouchure, finger placement, and tone development. These skills are taught step by step to ensure clarity and confidence.
Creativity is encouraged through improvisation, exploring melodies, and playing music from different genres. I guide students as a mentor, helping them overcome challenges and discover their musical strengths. Critical thinking is developed by encouraging students to listen closely, correct errors, and understand musical structure rather than memorising notes.
Accountability is built through clear lesson goals, practice routines, and regular evaluations. Students are guided on how to practice efficiently and stay consistent. In addition to Saxophone, I also teach Music Theory, Scale Practice, Rhythm Training, and Ear Development, which support long-term musical success.
