About Mark

I am a writer who believes in the power of writing to make a difference.

My mantra is find the story, tell it well, make a difference.

I have spent more than 30 years writing and directing work that aspires to make a difference and connect with audiences of all kinds, all over the world.

I have reached a stage in my career where I believe it is time to share my experience, knowledge and insight with fellow writers, who begin and end each day driven by the urgency to share their story with the world.

That is why I am here, doing this.

About the lesson

No one can teach you WHAT to write for the screen or stage.
Your story must come from you. But to fulfil your ambition, it does help to learn HOW to construct and develop your work and achieve the most effective and affecting outcome.
I have been writing for screen and stage for 30 years, winning international awards and critical acclaim.
I have written and directed works for the BBC and many other channels and my feature film, BLESSED was theatrically released and network broadcast on the BBC before being distributed worldwide.
I continue to write for stage, screen and I also write long-form prose. I have a number of TV and film projects in advanced stages of development and a theatre project in pre-production.

I have worked with and directed actors that include: James Nesbitt, Natascha McElhone, Gary Lewis, Olivia Colman, Matthew Cottle, Claire Goose, Peter Firth and many others. Everyone I have written for has expressed both admiration for and belief in the words I have written for them. Indeed, James Nesbitt went on record saying that my screenplay for BLESSED (feature film) was the best he had ever read.
I have mentored many writers during the course of my career and I am now committed to helping fellow writers pursue and achieve their goals.
Over the course of a 60-minute lesson I will help you to see your work with fresh eyes, recognising where you are hitting exceptional notes and where there is scope to push into new territory.

I will offer sensitive and meaningful critique - and also suggest pathways to develop your narrative and overcome any plot hurdles.
