About Lucy

My Education Experience:

My name is Lucy and I’m a Law student living in Brighton. English is my first language and I have an A level in English Language from when I studied in Cambridge Sixth Form. My English Language GCSE was a grade 8 and therefore I am in a strong position to teach the subject.

What I can teach:

I’m willing to teach young children to help with their vocabulary, grammar and spelling. I can also help older pupils grasp GCSE concepts for their English Language exam, providing that English is their first language. I absolutely love English and have always found it my strength, and therefore I am certain about the techniques involved to teach a student how to create an effective piece of writing. With learning vocabulary and memory-related tasks, skills are taught that can be generalised to all areas of study, with me and at home.

My Tutor Experience:

I have experience tutoring English pupils, and I have also been tutored for subjects in the past so I am confident in the environment and more than happy to help.
I also have four younger siblings from ages 2-16 who I consistently help with their school work so I feel reasonably updated with the current curriculum.

COVID-19:

Due to COVID, the majority of lessons are to be moved online via Zoom or Skype. I am completely flexible with this and will cater to any additional needs.

About the lesson

Diagnosis:

My teaching method is to get a feel for my students current level of knowledge and preferred learning style, whether it be visual, auditory or even kinetic. I use an approach that identifies areas of confusion either by looking at a problem/task or having a chat, before filling in the gaps step by step together and finding a learning process that works.

Structure:

Lesson objectives are planned prior to the tutor session, but whilst remaining flexible to fit the pupils pace of learning for that day. Practice makes perfect, and repetition is key!

Additional needs:

I am enthusiastic to teach but as a shy pupil myself when I was younger, I understand not all children are vocal about their areas of confusion and may not engage as effectively. This is completely manageable as I use methods such as repetition and demonstration to make sure nothing is missed.

About me:

As a teacher I am patient, approachable and attentive. My lessons are engaging, logical and loosely structured prior to the class.
