My approach to teaching is personalized, ensuring every student feels comfortable while progressing at their own pace. I focus on building a strong foundation of technique, rhythm, and body awareness, while encouraging self-expression and confidence in every move. My lessons combine structured drills with creative exploration, helping students not only learn the skills but also understand how to apply them in performances or routines. Whether it's burlesque, tap, or silk fan, I emphasize posture, fluidity, and musicality in each session. My goal is to make dance both an enjoyable and enriching experience for each student.
Each lesson is tailored to the individual student, but here’s a general breakdown of a typical session:
1. **Warm-Up (10 minutes):**
- A gentle warm-up focusing on stretching, mobility, and alignment to prepare the body and mind for dance.
2. **Technique Drills (15 minutes):**
- For burlesque: Focusing on isolations, fluid movement, and body confidence.
- For tap: Practicing basic steps and rhythms, such as shuffles, flaps, and time steps.
- For silk fan: Working on the graceful flow of the fan, wrist movements, and posture.
3. **Combination Practice (20 minutes):**
- Applying techniques in a short dance combination or routine. This section ties the drills together, allowing you to explore movement in a fluid sequence.
4. **Choreography or Creative Play (10 minutes):**
- Learning a routine or improvising based on what we've practiced, helping you develop your performance skills and artistic voice.
5. **Cool Down and Reflection (5 minutes):**
- A gentle stretch and review of what we’ve worked on, with feedback to reinforce progress and set goals for the next lesson.
Each lesson is flexible and adjusted based on your progress, needs, and personal goals. Whether you're preparing for a performance or just dancing for fun, I make sure each session is dynamic and rewarding!

Perfect! Knowledgeable, organized, creative. Home studio a huge plus
Perfect! Ellis is an excellent teacher and a very skilled dancer! She helps my teenage daughter with the choreography for her school's musical theatre production. Some of the dances are complicated and fast-paced, and Ellis is able to teach them to my daughter step by step. Ellis is very thorough, kind and professional. We are so happy to have found her!

As my first time in a tap dance class, I was afraid that I wouldn't get it. Fortunately, Ellis was very patient. She would use fun metaphors to help me learn the steps. Beginners don't need to worry when you take classes with Ellis. Her class is very interesting. I specially look forward to the combination that Ellis made up with the steps we learned in class. That way, we not only review the steps, I also look like a pro dancer :)
This class is the right mixture of easy and challenging! It's perfect for beginners.
Ellis knows how to make it fun and every class ends with a short choreography, so you can apply all you learned so far!View more recommendations
