Find your French tutor in Edgecliff

Teaching yourself French starts with a structured plan and consistent daily practice.

• Grammar basics: learn how verbs work, how nouns get their gender and how everyday sentences are built.
• Vocabulary building: learn the 500 most common French words first — they cover the majority of everyday conversations.
• Listening practice: expose yourself to native French through podcasts, films and YouTube to train your ear.
• Speaking aloud: practise pronunciation daily — repeat phrases, record yourself and work on correcting your accent.

A private tutor accelerates the process by correcting your mistakes in real time and adapting lessons to your goals.

In Edgecliff, expect to pay about $65/h for a French lesson.

Several factors influence the price:

• Your current level (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
• The tutor's experience and qualifications
• The duration and frequency of lessons
• Where the sessions take place

Online lessons are often more affordable while remaining effective.

Applied to French, the 80/20 rule means focusing on the vocabulary and grammar patterns that appear most often in real conversations.

• Essential words: mastering high-frequency everyday vocabulary gives you the strongest possible foundation for rapid communication.
• Key tenses: present, passé composé and simple future cover the vast majority of French conversations — master those before anything else.
• Common phrases: set expressions and collocations let you speak naturally without constructing every sentence from scratch.
• Smart revision: spend the bulk of your study time on the words and rules you keep forgetting, not the ones you already know.

A French tutor helps you identify exactly which 20% to focus on for your personal goals and current level.
