The first lessons for a new guitarist cover the physical setup and basic playing techniques.

• Parts of the instrument: Know the saddle and other critical elements to describe problems.
• Note names: The six strings are tuned to E-A-D-G-B-E from thickest to thinnest.
• Left-hand form: Press strings firmly just before the fret using the pads near your nails.
• Right-hand rhythm: Hold a pick between your index finger and strum from top to bottom with a relaxed wrist.

These basic skills prepare beginners for learning chords within a short timeframe.
